Fangren
Children of the Forest
Since they first appeared in the northeastern wilds, the Fangren have mostly dwelt in small forest communities hidden among the trees, never developing or expanding their influence or territories the way more industrious people have done. Throughout the ages, they have endeavored to live in harmony with the natural world, thriving with matters of personal expression and enjoying the rewards that come with risk. They have heavily focused on survival and natural pleasures, which has isolated them from much of the world.
Despite their limited outside contact, many Fangren have taken up adventuring out of a desire to experience more of the world. Since they are so long-lived, they can enjoy centuries of exploration and discovery. While Fangren are most often found in the northern and eastern Wilds, some have made themselves indispensable advisors, strategists, and masters of the natural world throughout the Beanut Lands.

Skin
While they are very different from their Primal Sylvan ancestors, the Fangren have never lost their deep connection to those natural, auric energies. Similar to the Faekin, this has allowed them to have one of the most diverse skin complexion spectrums. However, they have evolved to be more muted or neutral versions of these colors, preserving their survival through camouflage without sacrificing their expressive nature.
Lighter values (top) are common in cool or bright environments.
Darker values (bottom) are common in warm or darker environments.

Creature Feature
For ages and ages, all of the Sylvan people have cultivated a native ability to alter their bodies, but none so bold and dramatic as the Fangren. Instead of simply altering the colors and markings of their bodies, Fangren often take on the properties of native creatures of their familiar environments. This is most often done to take on the characteristics of a beloved or respected animal, but the properties of plants and interesting natural phenomena inspire the Fangren people as well.
Hair
Similar to their complexions, Fangren hair comes in all colors of the rainbow, but in more neutral and muted tones.
Likewise, they may have any potential hair type and texture, making it impossible to categorize any common Fangren hair type.
Eyes
Fangren eye colors are light, bright and saturated, and shine vividly in the sun. The occasional Fangren may have a deeper eye color, but these are few and far between.
A Fangren’s eyes are typically large, and commonly have a pointed look, especially accentuated on the outer corners.
Ears
Fangren have elongated, pointed ears that curve upward at a sharp angle.
Sylvan Aurogenesis
In addition to traditional two-parent procreation, the people of the Sylvan species supergroup (Faekin, Bodren, and Fangren) have a unique connection with the Auric nature of magic in the world. This has given their people the ability to produce offspring through the use of naturally Auric objects. To perform this ritual, known as Aurogenesis, requires at least one Sylvan parent and an appropriate Auric resource with high enough magic to complete the ritual.
For Fangren, the most accepted resources come from the rarest of magical flowers, seeds, herbs, and fungi, but may also be unique auric items from legendary-level magical creatures that are native to the Nettle Forest.
Traditional Reproduction
Fangren can procreate through traditional 2-partner reproduction with any Sylvan species. If the child is Fangren, they will inherit the Heritage of their Fangren parent, but may exhibit some traits of the other species, if it is a possibility.
Fangren + Fangren: a child will always be Fangren, with a 50% chance of taking either parent’s heritage
Fangren + Faekin: a child will always be Fangren
Fangren + Bodren: a child will be the same species as their mother

⚘ Heritage
Regardless of an individual’s Culture, their ancestors likely come from one of the following groups which determines a few of their notable physical characteristics.
For Fangren, this mainly affects their skin tone, hair colors, and body types.
Note: Your Heritage choice is purely for storytelling and may have narrative implications, but will not affect your characters stats, attributes, skills, or abilities.

Lilia Heritage
Location of origin: The Southern Nettle Forest
The people of the idyllic flowering woodlands, glimmering glades, and shining lake valley have evolved to exhibit more bright and colorful hair and skin tones to match their fantastical environment, much more like their Fae sistren. Thanks to their stronger populations and less threatening environment, these people have traditionally been able to express themselves more vibrantly without the risk of becoming a beast’s next meal.

Reki Heritage
Location of origin: Rekano Ridge and The Gilded Crescent
In the shadow of the great cliffs of the Gilded Crescent, the people who hail from Rekano Ridge often spend much time in caverns, holes, and canopied forest lands heavily obscured by the sunlight. The cultural ties to some of the less desirable creatures of the world has also given them more threatening features, such as higher eyebrows, more pronounced and pale eye colors, and they have lost more of the Sylvan vibrancy, often appearing even more muted in complexion and hair colors.

Darkwood Heritage
Location of origin: Mixed Sylvan parentage, or land-based regions such as The Heartlands, the Willidren Shelf of the Brittle Bog, and Willonia
Often referred to by outsiders as “Woodlings”, the Darkwood Fangren have lived cleverly, high in the lofty boughs of the treees, or else nestled away in hollowed logs, and hidey-holes spread around all areas of the Nettle Forest. Contrary to their name, the Darkwood Fangren are often considered whimsical in appearance with complexions leaning toward warmer neutral hues of trees and woodland creatures, which are more familiar to people of the outside world. They have larger eyes, and darker iris colors than other Fangren, often lending them a more innocent, doe-eyed appearance. Their ears are commonly shorter as well. Most Darkwood Fangren are naturally inclined toward shorter and lighter body types, due to their historically nimble lifestyles.

Frostfoot Heritage
Location of origin: Frostfoot Valley & surrounding areas
While the Fangren who hail from north of the Frostfoot River may distinguish themselves from each other by their unique regions, ecosystems, and communities, most of them exhibit very similar characteristics that make them very difficult to tell apart to any but themselves. Permanent winter has sapped these Fangren of much of their ability to take on warmer tones of skin and hair, so those who have more colorful and vibrant appearances exhibit cooler hues like blues, purples, and greens. Those who do have warmer complexions and hair are intensely muted or pale pastels. Most Frostfoot Fangren are naturally inclined toward stockier or heavier body types, as insulation from the chilling cold.

Everhollow Heritage
Location of origin: Mixed Sylvan parentage, and anywhere in the world
While few Fangren are seen outside the central, lush environments that they are best suited for, the Fangren who have made their way out in the world are just as vibrant and bright as the Faekin and Bodren people who live more connected lives. These Everhollow Fangren, named for the first major settlement known to be created by Fangren people in the Heartlands, have been known to spread their tenets of naturalism and unfettered self-assurance to any who will listen.
